Texas A&M University (TAMU) is a public research university established in 1876, the first public university in Texas and the sixth largest public university in the United States. It is considered one of the two flagship universities of Texas, alongside the University of Texas at Austin. TAMU is renowned for its engineering programs, ranking among the top ten in the 2024 U.S. News Best Engineering Schools. It is also one of the six senior military colleges in the U.S. and receives funding from NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense. TAMU is ranked 47th in the 2024 U.S. News Best Colleges rankings.


The university boasts nine Nobel laureates, three National Medal of Science recipients, and one Pulitzer Prize winner. Among its full-time faculty are 34 members of the National Academy of Engineering, 15 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 13 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and five members of the National Academy of Medicine. TAMU is home to notable figures such as chemist Derek Barton, known for his work on free radicals, Jack Kilby, the father of integrated circuits, and Bjarne Stroustrup, the creator of the C++ programming language. TAMU is also famous for its pioneering work in cloning technology, with the first cloned cat and dog created at the university. 


The George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum is located on campus.
